Slides. They’re fun. They’re also, according to a recent incident that occurred in Boston, a menace to the police. Yesterday, a video was posted by the Twitter account Live Boston (@LiveBoston617) showing how dangerous these playground staples can be to the badged among us.
The video, which is unfortunately just eight seconds long, shows a metal slide from which a clanging can be heard. In a flash, a police officer is ejected facedown, his body limp. The landing pad of the slide springs him forward, causing the uniformed man to smash his face into the ground below. Then, utilizing his minutes of training, he rolls, eventually lifting himself to his knees.

It’s unclear from this angle whether he was armed at the time, though his failure to shoot the offending slide would indicate he wasn’t. However, it also seems that something appearing to be a gun magazine had fallen away from him in the process, so it’s possible he was packing before he embarked on his journey.
Just to be sure, though, let’s get a second angle on that, this time posted to Live Boston’s YouTube channel:
Despite what you might think, cops hurting themselves on slides is actually pretty common. It’s true — Google “40% of cops” if you don’t believe me!
In this case, the I-Team of WBZ News reports, “Boston Police say the officer did get hurt and was treated using his own insurance. The department also told the I-Team he has not missed work with a line of duty injury.”
As for how and why on earth this could happen in the first place, Boston Police apparently had “no comment,” per WBZ News.
Not surprisingly given our current ACAB moment, users online weren’t too kind to the cop, presumably because he chewed pavement after going down a thing whose average ridership age is in the single digits. Some simply made jokes at the officer’s expense.

this isn’t funny. i’m a zoologist and police officers only behave this way when they are in distress. https://t.co/aWuUYBnE39

Others reversed the footage, creating a whole new monster for local police to fear.

Next time, maybe the police should stick to something a little easier. Hopscotch? The monkey bars? But no matter what they choose, one thing is clear: If the police can’t handle slides, they should definitely be in charge of deciding who needs to be arrested. Yup, no question about it.
